Why all the Chickens?

There are many chickens here as part of this artefact codex in progress.

One — because I didn’t have enough projects that started with obscure letters like v or q, and

Two — because I really like (maybe love?) chickens.

After working across a few farms, I realised there was a great diversity of chickens, each with their own unique personalities and characteristics, shaped by the different places and ecologies they came from around the world. These days, there's been a reduction in these strange and wonderful breeds on farms, with preferred breeds that offer increased meat and egg production taking priority over endemic varieties. But these birds have adapted to and emerged from the places that made them—and just because they may not be as ‘useful’ in ways we can easily measure for human benefit, doesn’t mean they aren’t valuable in other ways.

You can click on each chicken to learn more about who they are.
