Taking Shape was an annual artist residency held in the Donnelly River Timber Mill Village on Bibulman bodjar, Western Australia. Six artists lived and created under the same roof for one week. This incubation period provided the perfect opportunity for artists to share skills and learn from each other’s practices. Painting, soft sculpture, pottery, engraving, dyeing, audio, and video art were just a few of the mediums explored. Many cups of tea were shared among the quaint mill cottages. Picturesque vistas of the ancient Karri forest inspired much of the work created during this unique artist retreat.
During Big Al’s week at Donnelly River, she used gouache and oil painting to study the happenings in the Karri forest, from ground to sky.
